Principal Horn with the National Arts Centre Orchestra since 2002, Lawrence Vine has also served as Principal Horn with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
A much sought-after chamber musician, Lawrence has performed with Andrew Dawes, Lynn Harrell, Joseph Kalichstein, Anton Kuerti, Malcolm Lowe, Menahem Pressler, Pascal Rogé, David Schifrin, Joseph Silverstein, and Pinchas Zukerman. He regularly performs at home and on tour with the National Arts Centre Wind Quintet, a highly acclaimed ensemble that has recorded for the Naxos label.
As a soloist, he has appeared with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, and Ottawa’s Thirteen Strings Chamber Orchestra. His festival credits include the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Banff Centre for Fine Arts, Cleveland’s Kent/Blossom Music, the Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival and Ottawa's Music and Beyond Festival.
An active teacher and clinician, Lawrence is proud to teach the horn studio at the University of Ottawa's School of Music. He previously taught at the University of Manitoba, and has presented masterclasses at the Manhattan School of Music, Baltimore’s Peabody Conservatory, Chicago’s Roosevelt University, Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Universities of Colorado, Toronto, British Columbia, Calgary and Victoria. He also serves on the faculty of the NAC Summer Music Institute.
The Toronto Globe and Mail has praised his “fine, burnished playing”; the Winnipeg Free Press commended his “delicate phrasing, rounded tone, and sense of poise”; the Ottawa Citizen enthused that his “playing was assured, and his clear sound was remarkably subtle”; and the Montreal Gazette described his playing as “radiant”.
Cor solo de l’Orchestre du Centre national des Arts depuis 2002, Lawrence Vine a déjà occupé ce même poste au sein de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Calgary, de l’Orchestre symphonique de Winnipeg et du Manitoba Chamber Orchestra.
Chambriste très apprécié, il a partagé la scène avec Andrew Dawes, Lynn Harrell, Joseph Kalichstein, Anton Kuerti, Malcolm Lowe, Menahem Pressler, Pascal Rogé, David Schifrin, Joseph Silverstein et Pinchas Zukerman. Il se produit régulièrement, à Ottawa et en tournée, avec le Quintette à vent du Centre national des Arts, un ensemble très applaudi qu’on retrouve sous étiquette Naxos.
Comme soliste, il s’est produit avec l’Orchestre du CNA, l’Orchestre symphonique de Winnipeg, le Manitoba Chamber Orchestra et l’ensemble Thirteen Strings d’Ottawa. Il a aussi joué dans de nombreux festivals, notamment au Festival de musique de chambre de Santa Fe, au Banff Centre for Fine Arts, au Kent/Blossom Music de Cleveland, au Festival international de musique de chambre d’Ottawa et au Festival Musique et autres mondes d’Ottawa.
Très actif comme professeur et animateur d’ateliers, il enseigne le cor à l’Université d’Ottawa. Il a aussi enseigné à l’Université du Manitoba et a donné des classes de maître à la Manhattan School of Music, au Peabody Conservatory de Baltimore, à l’Université Roosevelt de Chicago, au Conservatoire royal de musique de Toronto, à l’Université Wilfrid Laurier et aux universités du Colorado, de Toronto, de la Colombie-Britannique, de Calgary et de Victoria. Il fait par ailleurs partie du corps professoral de l’Institut estival de musique du CNA.
Le Globe and Mail de Toronto a vanté son « jeu magnifique et brillant »; le Winnipeg Free Press a souligné « son phrasé délicat, sa sonorité ronde et son sens de l’équilibre »; l’Ottawa Citizen a applaudi « son jeu plein d’assurance, et sa sonorité claire et remarquablement subtile »; et The Gazette de Montréal a qualifié son jeu de « radieux ».
