After working closely with Robert Lepage for over 15 years, Marie Brassard choreographed her first solo, Jimmy, créature de rêve, in 2001. Since then, she has become known for shows with a dreamlike quality in which sound, light and video figure prominently. Long fascinated by Japanese culture, she decided to surround herself with women artists she met in Japan to create her new work, Violence, inspired by a child’s poetic remark.

“I think the first time I felt, if I can put it this way, a jolt about Japan was when I saw a documentary about a butoh dancer.”
