Allain Roy has worked as an assistant director and stage manager with several directors, including Robert Lepage, Brigitte Haentjens and Denis Marleau. In 2009, he returned to his home province of New Brunswick, where since November 2018 he has been the artistic director of the Théâtre populaire d’Acadie. For his first production for the company, he assembled a team of Acadian artists to stage a theatrical version of Jonathan Roy’s poetry collection Savèches à fragmentation.

“Jonathan has become a poet—he’s one of our ‘young’ poets—very much in the spotlight, who has a very contemporary vision of Acadia. That’s what I like about him: he doesn’t fall into the trap of folklorizing Acadia.”
