When Naishi Wang and Jean Abreu met in person for first time, they had already been collaborating on their new piece, Deciphers, virtually, for nearly two years. Just before the beginning of the pandemic, the two contemporary dance artists were selected for NAC Dance’s Visiting Dance Artist Program, a joint initiative of the Canada Council for the Arts (CCA) and the National Arts Centre (NAC).

Their long-awaited in-person encounter on November 15, 2021 was charged with emotion, and over the course of the four-week residency, their artistic practice and choreographic development were enriched by a variety of creative spaces and opportunities.
