Dance Portrait: Stephanie Troyak

  Subtitles available in English French

Discover the journey of Canadian-born dancer Stephanie Troyak as she follows her Muse—from her beginnings in Kitchener, Ontario, to Texas and New York, and finally to Wuppertal where she became a featured member of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch (TWPB), one of the world’s leading dance companies. In this year with Canada chosen as the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair and with several Canada in Germany projects in place, we celebrate the long and close relationship between our two countries, and between TWPB and NAC Dance.  This intimate portrait explores Stephanie’s path as she becomes one of the youngest members to be invited to join the storied troupe, the thrill of taking on a role Pina created over 30 years ago, and the challenges of embracing the intensity and beauty of her seminal dance works in contemporary terms.  Dancer, actress and budding choreographer, Stephanie Troyak’s journey is captured alongside the incredible works of the company.  Special thanks to Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch and the Pina Bausch Foundation for its cooperation, and to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Canada for its support with this project.
