Two Black musicians make their mark on the classical canon when guest violinist Randall Goosby fills Southam Hall with the music of Florence Price. Two of African American composer Florence Price’s violin concertos were discovered more than 50 years after her death. For this performance of her Violin Concerto No. 2, Price’s music has found a willing champion in violinist Randall Goosby, whose star is on the rise with the world’s best orchestras.

Balancing the evening with some levity, Richard Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks is one of the cleverest and funniest musical works ever written. When asked about it in his old age, composer Strauss said, “I just wanted to give the people in the audience a good laugh for once.” Hormones and waltzes finally unite two young lovers through plot twists, turns, and hilarious misunderstandings in Strauss’s Suite from Der Rosenkavalier

The NAC Orchestra’s Music Director Alexander Shelley counts Strauss as one of his favourite composers, making him the perfect conductor to lead this performance in a night to remember.
