"I spilled my guts on the table, a table sitting in the middle of a field in the great outdoors. It rained on my guts, and flowers sprang up from them… words, a novel," wrote Jonathan Harnois. His novel Je voudrais me deposer la tête ("I’d like to lay down my head") tells the troubling and poetic story of 20 year old Ludo, who is devastated by the recent suicide of his best friend Félix. Fulfilling a long-held dream, Claude Poissant has crafted a stage adaptation of this short novel whose pages bristle with confusion, anger, and clear-eyed insights into the kaleidoscopic emotions and keen torments of suburban youth. Together, director and writer have constructed a theatrical adventure for a contemporary generation.
From the moment he undertook his adaptation, Claude Poissant took care to treat Harnois’ characters with respect, particularly Ludo, the messenger, "the one who is all about youth, rebelling against banality, partying, the meaning of things, our fragile connection to life. The one who guides our footsteps toward the river. The one who tells us about Félix, his oppressive presence and his damnable absence." And in the end, according to the author, "the novel is there, within the bodies. It is there, alive. Incredibly alive."
